P100 STORYLINE
In a world where beneficiary countries grapple with varying degrees of burdens, limited biosafety and biosecurity management capabilities have emerged as crucial challenges within integrated state border security measures. The global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has served as a stark reminder, exposing critical weaknesses across nations.
Insufficient technical expertise in rapid bio testing and follow-up, coupled with shortages of pre-stockpiled disposable materials, countries have found themselves ill-prepared to combat possible threats. The dearth of knowledge and skills concerning biosafety and biosecurity measures among state border protection staff further exacerbate the situation.
The absence or insufficiency of specialized methodological components, including comprehensive guidelines and standard operating procedures, posed significant challenges in developing robust institutional arrangements capable of swiftly responding to biosafety and biosecurity events along state borders.
Sustainability measures, such as conducting regular national and cross-border exercises, have emerged as a formidable hurdle for the Southeastern Europe and Eastern Europe (SEEE) region. Testing front line biosafety and biosecurity response plans and procedures on both national and international levels proved to be a demanding task.
The project is aimed at the fostering horizontal cooperation among national and international services and strengthening of the collective response to front line biosafety and biosecurity challenges.
It is funded by the European Union's Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear risk mitigation Centres of Excellence Initiative (EU CBRN CoE) and is implemented by the Science & Technology Center in Ukraine (STCU).
